Is religion really the source of morality?

I've heard it said that religion - in particular Christianity - is the source of morality, from where man derived his morals from. But if religion is man-made, how can this be? Surely morality already existed before the advent of Christianity? It must therefore be innate, explicable instead through evolutionary ethics and evolutionary psychology.
