Is there a genetic link to schizophrenia in familys and autism?

My son is 2 years old and has not yet been diagnosed with autism but has a lot of symptoms. The neurologist did tests on him and said it is not hereditary but i saw an interesting article about schizophrenia and autism being related. My sister died of schizophrenia complications(suicide) and my mother has had problems with it in the past but she takes meds that controls hers. I'm just curious if anybody has a child with autism that has genetics to schizophrenia. I do not have schizophrenia but my immediate family does. Serious answers only pls.
