Confusing Ending of "Hard Candy"?

Yes he was guilty, there was too much evidence of what he had done. It clearly sums it up in the end. When he has the rope around his neck the deal was that if he hangs himself Hailey wouldn't tell his girlfriend of what he did and therefore be saved. Thus stating that he was guilty. And yes she was still a psychopath
